  • SURF'S UP FOR WOUNDED WARRIORS

    Wounded veterans face many challenges when they arrive home, their lives forever changed due to major physical injuries. One surf instructor decided that shouldn’t stop them from living, and loving, life.

    Ken Hunt, the Wounded Warriors Surf Camp coordinator, joined us on the show today. He holds surf camps for veterans across the U.S. in an effort to give back to the people who served so that we can keep our freedom.

    Hunt says he nearly called off an event because of extremely large waves. He didn’t, and he says as soon as the veterans began arriving he was glad he made that choice. He said it was clear these participants had faced much bigger challenges than some waves.

  • BIDEN HEADING TO THE GULF

    Vice President Joe Biden will head to the Gulf on Tuesday to see how oil spill efforts are going. National Incident Commander, Admiral Thad Allen, announced the trip to New Orleans and the Florida panhandle during today’s briefing.

    Also in that briefing, Adm. Allen said siphoning efforts would be stopped in the event gale-force winds are in the forecast. When possible, operations would stop five days before the winds are predicted to hit.

  • LAWRENCE TAYLOR CHARGED

    Former NFL superstar Lawrence Taylor has been indicted on rape and sexual assault charges. This stems from his arrest at a New York hotel last month. Prosecutors say he paid $300 to have sex with a teenage girl. The teen told police a pimp brought her to meet Taylor and that she was threatened and assaulted.

    His next court date is scheduled for July 13.

    Lots going on in the Gulf today.

    We’re just getting word that the Interior Department is getting ready to issue a new ban on deepwater drilling. A six-month ban it tried to issue was shot down by the courts yesterday. This time, the Department says it’ll scale back the ban.

    Also coming in now…the oil leak is out-of-control again. Coast Guard Admiral Thad Allen says an underwater robot bumped into the venting system. They had to remove a cap, which was helping to contain some of the oil, to make sure ice crystals hadn’t begun to form.

    More bad news from Thad Allen: 2 people working on the response efforts have died. It’s not clear if the deaths were related to response efforts.

    Join Harris Faulkner and Rick Folbaum today as they give you the latest developments in the case against alleged killer Joran Van Der Sloot. He’s changing his story again, and you won’t believe who’s no longer on his side.

    In this photo from the social networking site Orkut.com, a man who was identified by neighbors in Connecticut as Faisal Shahzad, is shown. Shahzad was arrested at a New York airport on charges that he drove a bomb-laden SUV meant to cause a fireball in Times Square, federal authorities said. Shahzad, was taken into custody late Monday by FBI agents and New York Police Department detectives at Kennedy Airport while trying to board a flight to Dubai, according to U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder and other officials.     Faisal Shahzad, the suspected Times Square bomber, will make his second court appearance at noon today.  The federal grand jury has indicted Shahzad on 10 counts, each of which contains a maximum sentence of life.  Find out more about the charges he faces on today’s show.
