  • La Guardia: Bird strikes AA plane on landing

    Harris Faulkner |

birdstrikeplane_0Breaking:  Just like Miracle on the Hudson another plane hit by birds near La Guardia International Airport in New York City. This time, it happened as American Airlines flight #1256 arriving from Miami was just 900 feet off the ground and descending for landing.

A bird or birds hit the plane... possibly causing a hydraulic leak.  Crews are inspecting the plane to see if the plane suffered a hit in the engines, flaps or landing gear.

There were 135 passengers and 5 crew on board... no one was hurt and the pilot crew landed the plane safely.  It pulled into Gate 10 and emergency teams followed it every step of the way once it was on the ground.

A Port Authority spokesman told me La Guardia is surrounded by water on 3 sides... and foul are a problem.  They've been trying to erradicate birds but, it's a slow process.

You'll recall birds hit the engines of the US Airways flight that Capt. "Sully" Sullenberger heroically guided... landing on the Hudson River earlier this year.  It was a miracle the plane didn't break apart and no one died.

One hundred and fifty three people are now presumed dead after an airbus A310-300 from Yemen crashed into the Indian Ocean this morning. The only survivor of the disaster looks to be a 5-year-old boy. New developments continue to break in this story, but it now appears that the crash was caused by stormy weather in the flightpath.

The verdict is out in Bernie Madoff's trial, but  who will be put on the stand next? Ten more people are likely to be charged in the scheme. Will they be family members or employees of Madoff?

  • MADOFF GETS 150 YEARS IN PRISON

    Harris Faulkner |

Bernard Madoff said he was sorry for his crimes of defrauding investors in his multi-billion dollar Ponzi Scheme.  And, then the judge had the final say:  150 years in prison.

Madoff spoke in court at his sentencing in Manhattan, which began with 9 victims telling heartbreaking stories of losing everything to Madoff.  Cameras were not allowed in the courtroom today... so I'm posting a sketch we just received from the courtroom artist.fs_madoff_court_sketch

It's estimated Madoff took the money of thousands of trusting investors... many of them middle class elderly planning for retirement.  He hid the money or spent it over the years...never investing a dime as he had promised them.

His wife Ruth just came out with a statement saying she didn't know of her husband's crimes before he told her shortly before getting arrested.  She gets to keep 2 1/2 million dollars while all of their possessions will be auctioned by the government... in hopes of giving something back to the victims.
