We have tons of questions about swine flu, so we're guessing you do too. We did a little digging and found this information from the Center of Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). We'll have more on our show tomorrow, but check this out:
→ HOW EFFECTIVE IS AN OLD VACCINATIONIN PREVENTING SWINE FLU?
The ability of flu vaccine to protect a person depends on the age and health status of the person getting the vaccine, and the similarity or "match" between the virus strains in the vaccine and those in circulation.
Testing has shown that both the flu shot and the nasal-spray vaccine are effective at preventing the flu.
→ HOW DOES SWINE FLU SPREAD?
Spread of this swine influenza A (H1N1) virus is thought to be happening in the same way that seasonal flu spreads.
Flu viruses are spread mainly from person to person through coughing or sneezing of people with influenza.
Sometimes people may become infected by touching something with flu viruses on it and then touching their mouth or nose.
→ CAN I GET SWINE FLU FROM EATING FOOD IMPORTED FROM MEXICO?
No. Swine influenza viruses are not spread by food.
You cannot get swine influenza from eating pork or pork products.
Eating properly handled and cooked pork products is safe.
→ HOW DID SWINE FLU GET ITS NAME?
Swine Influenza (swine flu) is a respiratory disease of pigs caused by type A influenza viruses that causes regular outbreaks in pigs.
→ SHOULD TRIPS TO MEXICO BE CANCELLED?
Yesterday, CDC issued a travel warning recommending that people avoid non-essential travel to Mexico.
PA Republican Senator Arlen Specter expected to hold a news conference to announce that he is switching to the Democrat Party... and, that he will run as a Dem in 2010.
This would hand the Dem Party power... pulling them closer to a 60 majority and filobuster-proof majority in the Senate.
